The history of the Scania brand
In 1900, the Maskinfabriksaktiebolaget Scania factory was founded in Malmö (Polish: Fabryka maszyn Sp. Z o.o. in Skåne), which was to produce bicycles. Soon, Scania also began manufacturing cars and trucks. In 1902, the production of trucks commenced. In 1911, as a result of the merger of the company with the automotive concern Vagnsfabriks Aktiebolaget, a company was founded named AB Scania-Vabis. In 1935, Scania became the main representative of the Volkswagen brand on the Swedish market, and a year later launched the first own diesel engine. In the 1950s, the creation of a sales and service network in Europe began. In 1957, the production of trucks began in Brazil.
In 1969, Scania merged with the Swedish manufacturer of passenger cars (the automotive branch of an aircraft machine manufacturer – Saab) – SAAB, to be divorced in 1995, the name Saab-Scania. As a result of the cooperation, both brands have developed a joint logo with a griffin from which, after the divorce in 1995, the name Saab-Scania disappeared, and the name of each brand appeared. When in 1995 the corporations parted, the part producing commercial vehicles received the name Scania AB.
